What is Embrocation?

Anything you rub on your body to moisten it is considered "embrocation". In our case, embrocation is a liniment that you rub on your legs prior to activity. Embrocation has four main uses: can deliver a warming sensation to the applied area (not applicable to our No Heat Embro), it increases blood flow to muscles, it allows for a pre-activity massage, and it provides protection from the elements.

What is Chamois Cream?

Technically, chamois cream is embrocation. Now that you are thoroughly confused, the real answer is that chamois cream is more commonly known as “anti-friction” cream. Runners and cyclists use them to relieve pain or chafing while performing. Chamois Creams have similar applications for hikers and even cross-country skiers. Our particular chamois cream is 100% free of petroleum products, artificial preservatives, and other ingredients we don't have any idea how to pronounce. Anything not from mother earth more complicated to pronounce than "shea butter" is not going to work in our products.

How do I apply The Ritual?

First and foremost, remember this mantra: Chamois cream then Embro. Trust us, if you mix those instructions you will be cursing us for a few hours.

For our chamois cream, simply take however much you feel comfortable with and rub it directly on your skin in the areas where your body touches your saddle. You can put our product directly on your skin or on your chamois.

For embrocation, roll up your shorts and roll down your socks, take a decent glob of product into your hands and warm it up slightly prior to massaging it into your skin up and down your leg. Focus on really rubbing it into the muscles, ligaments and tendons as they will thank you for it later. The more you rub it in pre-ride, the more effective it will be during your ride.

How do I remove The Ritual?

For chamois cream on your skin, you won't need to. In fact, you should really be bathing in the stuff since it is so good for your skin and any scrapes or sores you may have. Plus, our chamois creams are specially formulated to slowly be absorbed by your skin over time so let your skin drink it in!

For chamois cream on your chamois, if there is a residue left behind prior to washing your bottoms, just wet the chamois and take a few drops of Dawn liquid hand soap and lather it up slightly before putting it into the washer.

For embrocation, this is more of a personal preference. You can either: A: Jump straight into the shower and risk the fury of Capsaicin working its way into your wide open pores of a hot shower or B: Use a wash rag coated in your favorite vegetable oil (olive, coconut, sweet almond, etc.) and rub your legs. This will dilute and break down the Capsaicin allowing your legs to shower in peace. Regardless of which direction you choose to go in, you owe it to yourself to at least once bask in the afterglow of post-shower embrocation warming. Trust us, its almost worth going out on a 3 hour ride in the rain just for that sensation.

My product melted in my hot car, is it ruined?

Not at all, you can use it exactly as it is in its melted state or let it cool at room temperature/refrigerator or freezer and use it again. This is the trade-off of not using parabens and other synthetic preservatives, the melting point of our products ranges from 95-120 degrees. You may notice that after it melts that it may have a grainier texture than it did brand new, this is just a byproduct of using all natural ingredients. Shea Butter is carefully tempered during the production process and if it melts post-production, it may not feel as smooth but will still work just as well. Once you get The Ritual in your hand and it warms up, you will notice that its not only buttery smooth, but thicker and much more long-lasting than any other product on the market. You will actually be able to use less of our product, allowing it to last longer.

What is the shelf life of The Ritual?

Because we use all natural ingredients in tandem with essential oils with countless healing and preservative properties, our products have a shelf life of 1 year or more. We never use raw ingredients that are more than 6 months old as natural oils and butters can go rancid over a period of time. They won't begin to smell or anything like when food goes bad, they just begin to lose their healing characteristics and that's not what we are after. We make our chamois creams and embrocation in small batches, by hand, with only one person responsible for all of our manufacturing. This allows us to ensure the freshest product for you, and the best experience while you use it.
